Tall, soft grasses, flowers to frame the vast ocean...
Sometimes you just have to take a chance. That was the group effort to bring flowing grasses, shape, volume and life to this oceanfront home. I consulted every form of wisdom I could tap into to find the best plant species for an ongoing experiment. It was an experiment to find grasses, sages, flowering perennials that would stand up to the constantly stiff and salty wind off of the Pacific Ocean. I hand it to these homeowners for taking it on and we are all grateful to have found combinations that met the intention. An intention to provide a little privacy and a lot of softness and color, a kind of moderating force that works with some of Nature's best stuff.
Framing, Softening, Collaborating
The idea that grew and is still growing. I can't laud these homeowners enough for taking on a project that absolutely required their patience. Well, and dedication to adding natural elements as a frame for an already inspiring view. Mission accomplished.
The Graceful Shapes of a Tree
When you can't plant a tree in your neighbor's space, there are options. The space between homes at this beachside residence needed a little artistic relief. We collaborated around the theme of recreating the interesting shapes of a dead, leafless tree that had been removed. Even though it no longer leafed out, it's naturally graceful shapes were a visual relief to the severe angles of the built environment. Inspired by the Cypress trees of Big Sur.
